For those of you that haven’t paid any attention to college football this year, the best defensive player in the country on the best team in the country has been given the nickname ” honey badger.” I love wildlife and had heard of a badger but never a HONEY badger, so I googled it. After watching the video and Tyrann Mathieu ( the honey badger) play, I know why he has been given the nickname. The toughest most fearless animal in the world is 2 foot long and 30 pounds!!!!

Two years ago when we won the league we had a team full of ” honey badgers” and the king of them all Aaron Wascha. Aaron wasn’t the biggest or the strongest or the most talented but he was FEARLESS!!! He NEVER backed down from a challenge ….. he actually LOVED them! Cody Campbell is the best point guard that has ever played at our school but without honey badgers like Aaron, Trevor Black, Reggie Thornton and Evan Seath we would NOT have won the league like we did………WE NEED some honey badgers on this team and fast!!!

Your coaches believe in you, your parents believe in you, and your community believes in you…. that is ALL that matters. Nobody comes into OUR gym ever again and takes ANYTHING from us and when we go to opposing gyms lets take whatever we want for 32 minutes on that court………From here on out lets play like the Swartz Creek Honey Badgers!

6’5 Junior guard JD Tisdale has been offered a full ride scholarship to Bowling Green University. JD has also taken unofficial visits to Toledo and Central Michigan. Also recruiting JD are EMU, Oakland, Xavier, WMU, and Temple. JD has not made a decision yet….look for big things from JD this season on the hardwood!

MAX CUMMINGS

Max Cummings has made first team all league WR on our football team! Congrats to Max……if Max should happen to make first team all league in basketball ( which I believe he will) he will be the first player in Creek history, that I can remember to make first team in football and basketball. Max is an amazing athlete and we are all looking forward to a great season on the hardwood from Maxxer!

CODY CAMPBELL

One of the all time best players in Creek history has made the Varsity basketball team at Hope college. Hope is one of the top D3 programs in the country and actually plays Western Michigan this year. If you have never been to a Hope game it is an amazing experience and a beautful facility. Cody is a 5’10 sophomore point guard and should have a great future ahead at Hope. Hope’s Varsity team only has one Freshman and two Sophomores on the team….Congrats to Cody!!! Looking forward to a Hope game in the very near future big guy! All us Dragons wish you the best, we know you will do great!

SUMMER BASKETBALL MEETING

There will be a summer basketball meeting in the High School gym on Wednesday May 4th at 7:30 for all kids planning on playing JV or Varsity basketball this summer. This meeting is very important as we will be going over many things that you will need to know going into the summer. If you cannot attend you need to contact me asap and I will get you the information. We will be having open gym after the meeting from 8-9:30

LOGAN HULL MAKES ALL STATE

Logan Hull has made BCAM ( basketball coaches association of Michiagn) all state team. There are two all state teams, the media ( the one you see in the paper AP poll) and the Coaches poll. Logan was voted all state Class A ( top 20 players in class A) in the coaches poll.

This is the first time that a Swartz Creek player has made all state! Cody Campbell was honorable mention all state last year. We will find out next week if Logan makes Academic all state ( which was done by Cody last year)

What an amazing accomplishment for both of our players to accomplish this in back to back years!

END OF SEASON AWARDS

After a very up and down year for our program, I went back into past seasons at Creek and found out that we are one of three teams in the past 20 YEARS to finish in second place or better in our league! Last year’s finish was an amazing season that will never be forgotten here at Creek and we came just a game short this year. After meeting with Sue Calvo yesterday, she said it best: “After a second place finish our players were disappointed, in years past our kids would’ve been ELATED with a second place finish. Our kids have raised the bar at SC.”

2nd all-time in school history FG%
3rd all-time leading rebounder in school history
All-time shot block leader in school history
Currently being heavily recruited by Adrian, Concordia, Albion, and Davenport colleges

JOE SEITZ

2nd team all-league selection
Led team in assists
Averaged 12 ppg

MAX CUMMINGS

Honorable mention all league
Averaged 9.5 ppg

JAROD JONES

Honorable mention all league
Defensive player of the year

DAVID WITHEY

Team most improved player
Finished 2nd in rebounding, 2nd in steals, 4th in scoring, 2nd in FG%, 4th in assists, and first in playing through injuries

Overall it was a very good season, though not the way we all wanted it to end; but, it was a good season and something to be proud of especially considering we lost eight of our top nine players from the year before. We lose only three seniors from this years team so there is a lot to look forward to heading into next season!!!!!!

This upcoming season will be the one that will tell if we are a program, a good program that is competitive or a CHAMPIONSHIP PROGRAM that is here to stay. Only you players can decide that in these next eight very important months. What would you be willing to do if you KNEW you could not fail??????
